Product kits for the future: Kit#1 Halogen-free Flame Retardants

The European polymer industry is facing one of its most significant material transitions in decades. Brominated and chlorinated flame retardants are being progressively restricted under EU REACH and RoHS legislation. For many manufacturers the question is no longer whether to switch, but how quickly. Wintzell & Fried is therefore preparing for the future with a kit of halogen-free flame retardants!

At Wintzell & Fried, we are now starting to launch product kits to make life easier for our customers. Starting with these products, we are embarking on a more sustainable path ready for future opportunities! Today we start by launching Kit# 1, our answer to the increasing demand of substitutions for bromated and chlorinated flame retardants.

Our halogen-free flame retardant kit brings together greener options containing phosphorus and nitrogen-based products:

Aluminium diethylphosphinate (ADP)

Aluminium hypophosphite (AHP)

Ammonium polyphosphate (APP)

Dicyandiamide (DCD)

Zinc borate

At the core are Aluminium diethylphosphinate and Aluminium hypophosphite — proven primary flame retardant agents for polyamides, polyesters, and engineering thermoplastics. Ammonium polyphosphate and Dicyandiamide complete the intumescent system, forming an expanding protective char layer when exposed to heat and Zinc borate rounds out the kit as a synergist that enhances char stability and suppresses smoke generation. The result is a P-N chemistry package and Wintzell & Fried are able to source all of them within our extensive distribution network.
